The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

Pharmacy Student

My position of pharmacy student requires me to prepare and dispense oral medications, mostly oral suspensions, as it is a pediatrics hospital. In order to prepare the oral suspensions used in the pharmacy, I must follow the formulations exactly and wait for the pharmacist to check them before they can be used. I have worked as a runner to deliver all medications throughout the hospital that cannot be sent by the pneumonic tube system, including chemotherapeutic agents, narcotic infusions, and large dose medications. I work very closely with the many staff and clinical pharmacists positioned at the hospital concerning medication orders and pharmacy calculations. I familiarize myself with the inner workings of a large and sophisticated hospital pharmacy, various medications and help to maintain the pharmacy’s level of integrity.
