Part of my duties included maintaining the Enterprise systems built for two of our largest clients.
The system consists mainly of Oracle Forms and Oracle PL/SQL applications. These interact with PERL and BASH scripts, as well as JAVA servlets and applications. There is also a fair amount of work with XML and XSLT. We develop on and for Windows and UNIX platforms.
My daily duties also include meeting with clients, mentoring junior staff, analysis and documentation of code.
Brief Description of my most recent projects:
Development of Java-based web service to be consumed by third party for use in their mobile application
Roles: Junior architect, Lead developer, Project manager
Development of Java-based web service to be consumed by third-party for use in an interactive SMS application; as well as development of the application to send SMS replies to the initiating cellular device.

In my 3rd year of study I was employed as head analyst and developer on a project for Prof. Kavilan Moodley of the Cosmology department.

The application we developed is currently used by one of the largest telescopes in the country. It was developed using a scientific programming language on Linux workstations. It took six months to devise the mathematical algorithm that the program would use, and a further six months to design the application; learn the language; code and test the solution.
