About Kevin Spacey, full interview
Award winning producer/actor Kevin Spacey has been the Artistic Director of The Old Vic Theatre Company in London for the past ten years. Spacey has appeared in productions at the Old Vic, including “National Anthems,” “The Philadelphia Story,” “Speed the Plow,” “Richard II,” “Inherit the Wind” and “A Moon for the Misbegotten”.
Spacey has won two Academy Awards® for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “The Usual Suspects” and as Best Actor for “American Beauty,” directed by his “Richard III” director, Sam Mendes. This performance also garnered him a BAFTA Award as Best Actor.
Spacey currently stars in the Netflix original series “House of Cards,” portraying the charismatic and ruthless politician Francis Underwood. He was nominated for a Golden Globe®, an Emmy, and a Screen Actors Guild award as Best Actor in a Drama Series.
Spacey and his producing partner Dana Brunetti run Trigger Street Productions, which has produced multiple award-winning movies for film and television. Their feature films include the Golden Globe® and Academy Award® nominated “Captain Phillips,” starring Tom Hanks, “The Social Network,” which won a Golden Globe® for Best Picture and received multiple Academy Award® nominations and wins, “Casino Jack,” “Shrink,” “Fanboys,” “21,” “The Sasquatch Gang,” “The United States of Leland,” “Beyond the Sea,” and the documentaries “Shakespeare High” and “Uncle Frank."
Inspired by his mentor Jack Lemmon, Spacey has often launched initiatives to help emerging artists get their start in the competitive worlds of film and theatre, including: Triggerstreet.com, an online community for unrepresented screenwriters and short film directors; The Kevin Spacey Foundation, which offers support to young actors, writers and producers (including workshops during the tour of “Richard III”), and most recently, “Jameson First Shot,” a competition which awards writer/directors from South Africa, Russia and the US with the opportunity to direct a short film, which have starred Spacey, Willem Dafoe, and this year, Uma Thurman.
