I re-entered the work force 13 months ago , for the first time in 11 years. When my daughter was born I became a stay at home mom. I intended to return to my work as a psychologist when my child began full day school. Three months before she started 1st grade, I was in a near fatal car accident. A deer leapt off an overpass ...

HOPE- How One Person Effects, LLC

Social Soloprenur

I am the owner of an LLC. My goal via website, blog, public speaking, book and coaching, is to illustrate that it is possible to recover from abuse and traumas. I have struggled through the broken mental health system and problematic Brain Injury system with perseverance and HOPE. I worked hard for years to find the right doctors, right treatment, refusing to give up HOPE.

After a near fatal car accident in 2010, I awoke from a coma with a SEVERE Traumatic Brain Injury and a paralyzed left arm. The force of the accident caused the motor nerves to be ripped from my spine causing Brachial Plexus Avulsion. Additionally, nerve damage to my lungs and urethra, presented challenges until the bodies natural healing was complete. When renowned neurologists told me "go home and do crossword puzzles" as my only treatment option, I held on to HOPE. I researched treatment options, tried neuro-feedback, sought advice from TBI support group. I found the right doctors and correct treatment, after I presented medication options with research data to support my proposal. I refused to give up HOPE for me or my daughter.

In my life, when I encountered ignorance, I provided education. When I encountered false assumptions and perceptions, I choose open communication for clarity. I choose to be the the ONE person who Effects ME. My BRAIN based medical problems have been a challenge.

I have used my experiences when working as a psychologist to provide HOPE to our struggling youth. I intend to do the same with TBI survivors. In my current work studying positive psychology with world renowned leaders and teachers, I have found data to support what I always knew.

A person is 50 % GENETIC pre-disposition, 10% LIFE EVENTS, and 40% CHOICES. You can choose to get healthy and be happy. You can choose to develop areas of weakness and foster your strengths. You can do more than just recover and be at baseline. You can move "North of Neutral" to be the best version of yourself!
