Public Policy Intern

Followed and analyzed key issues relating to the betterment of association professionals in the business world, including government spending, tax reform, and implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Legislative and Governmental Affairs Intern

Researched and analyzed state house and senate bills pertaining to the profession of engineering during the 83rd Texas Legislative Session.

Maintained the TSPE legislative tracking database of over 300 state bills, conducted legislative research, helped facilitate and plan events including the biennial Professional Engineers Day at the Capitol, supported lobbying and grassroots efforts, wrote and sent out weekly legislative updates and legislative alerts to members, edited content for the TSPE Legislative Affairs webpage, and attended weekly House transportation committee hearings.

Collaborated with a team of four undergraduate research assistants and one graduate assistant on the Campaign Mapping Database Project for Dr. Hart, Dean of the College of Communication at UT Austin.

Digitally compiled letters to the editor and debate transcripts during the 2012 presidential election season in order to develop a communicative, normative, objective, and comprehensive view of campaigns. Held monthly team meetings to discuss findings.

Implemented several outreach programs and website development projects designed to increase graduation rates of greater Houston area students. Including the High School Service Map Initiative, The After-School Zones program with the Houston Public Library system, the 2011 COH/HISD Back to School Fair, and the 2012 City of Houston FAFSA day.

Developed proficiency in cultivating public-private sector partnerships, grant-writing, prepared presentations on community outreach, organized information regarding events and programs, planned events, conducted research, attended city council and partner meetings.

One of 20 campaign fellows from across the country selected to work on Mayor Parker's 2011 re-election campaign. Learned political and social activism through campaign techniques such as fundraising, grassroots organizing, and overall strategy. Helped facilitate both philanthropic events and fundraisers, research, data entry, increased campaign finances.
