Quinn Evans Architects

Landscape Designer

My work at Quinn Evans Architects is focused on preservation and rehabilitation of nationally and locally significant historic landscapes. I support production of Cultural Landscape Reports and other cultural resource management planning projects through project organization, research, field documentation, and drawing production. I work with collaborative teams including tribal representatives, archaeologists, and ecologists to provide recommendations that integrate multiple viewpoints from diverse stakeholders and ensure preservation of historic and natural elements at these important sites.

Clothing Matters

Marketing Coordinator

Inspired by my passion for environmentally conscious goods, I assist this small eco-apparel business by managing the store’s web presence including website updates, email marketing, and social media including Facebook and Twitter. I also design marketing campaigns and event publicity materials.

Land Architects

Designer

My work at this local design-build firm was twofold. I designed ecologically-focused residential landscapes for a number of sites through site visits, client meetings, and preparation of hand-rendered plans and perspectives and 3-D models. I also maintained a large residential landscape by editing existing plantings, coordinating work groups, and recommending future landscape management.

At the University of Michigan’s archive, I assisted library patrons by retrieving, scanning, and photocopying historical documents. In addition, I researched and wrote responses to remote requests for historic information.

Green Infrastructure Analysis and Design Master's Project

Master Editor and Project Manager

For my Master of Landscape Architecture thesis project, I acted as project manager and master editor for a stormwater management project that established ecosystem services, social capital, and landscape amenity in Detroit. I collaborated on the design of innovative green infrastructure types for the Lower Eastside Action Plan, a local community organization, and wrote and edited the final report including a literature review, analysis of stormwater capacity, siting of green infrastructure, and design documentation.

Harder and Warner Landscape, Inc.

At this landscape design-build firm and plant nursery, I designed residential-scale plantings through site visits, plant selection, client meetings, and preparation of hand-rendered plans and perspectives. I provided extensive retail customer service with material selection, horticultural advice, troubleshooting, organization of nursery displays, and maintenance of nursery stock.

Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park

Seasonal Gardener

Installation and maintenance of garden displays were my primary responsibilities at this large public garden. I further supported garden operations by mapping donated items and irrigation system components using ArcGIS. I also managed the park’s BGBASE database of woody and herbaceous plant records.

West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC) is a nonprofit organization focused on building sustainable communities and protecting water resources in West Michigan. As the rain gardens intern, I inventoried, mapped, and maintained WMEAC native plant nurseries, and coordinated volunteer work groups for invasive species management and site maintenance at Council-owned nurseries and gardens. I also designed, organized, and supervised installation of two rain gardens for Kent County Habitat for Humanity.
