Network Design Engineer III

Primary duties involve the review, validation, development and/or processing of Department of Defense telecommunications requirements from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Direct Order Entry (DDOE)/Telecommunications Service Request (TSR) to the final Telecommunications Service Order (TSO).
Network Design Engineer, provide engineering direction to the design of network systems. Develop engineering solutions for the various customer task orders that satisfy each customer's task objective. Design and implement highly complex networks that typically link numerous computing platforms, operating systems, and network topologies across widely dispersed geographical areas. Develop and implement strategy for generating multiple alternate designs at each development level, and trade-off results which trigger iteration of the design process. Create engineering deliverable packages which are professional in appearance and of consistently high quality. Work with local site points of contacts, telecommunication service order writers, and other DISA task order personnel to complete the engineering packages. Create engineering deliverable packages with sufficient detail & accuracy to provide a successful, 1st attempt, installation by local personnel or the SST contractor. Strive for flawless execution in meeting the applicable task order standards.

Analyze customer service requests and provide technical solutions/recommendations for voice, data, video, and wireless circuits. Analysis will include identifying and verifying the appropriate DISA Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) solution that may use any combination of telecommunications transmission medium such as, but not limited to, Microwave, Satellite, Ultra High Frequency, Fiber Optics, TCP/IP, Local, Metropolitan, and/or Wide Area Networks (LAN/MAN/WAN), Cable, Frequency (FDM), Time (TDM), Asynchronous (ATM) or SONET Dense Wave Division Multiplexed (DWDM) systems.
Track all provisioning actions through to completion/operation using on-line tools. These on-line tools consist of a variety of automated systems and databases such as the Worldwide On-line System (WWOLS), DDOE Program, Defense Information and Telecommunications Contracting Office (DITCO) on-line system, and Telecommunication Certification Office Support System (TCOSS). These tools will be used to research DISN capabilities to ensure properly utilized of resources to satisfy customer requirements and performed cost analysis to ensuring cost effective resource utilization prior to provisioning
Defines network communications and designs and implements solutions within existing network. Manages load configuration of central data communication processor and makes recommendations for upgrade of data networks. Evaluates and reports on new analog and digital communications technologies to enhance the capabilities of the data network. Provides problem resolution for all hardware and software elements of the data communication network and ensures the availability of the data network. Proposes solutions to management to provide all data communications requirements are based upon future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. May coordinate network-oriented projects.
