Tate Publishing

I wrote a non-fiction children’s book, “My Dad the Hero”, released by Tate Publishing on May 27th, 2014.

After a lifetime of being a type 1 diabetic, my husband, Scott, was diagnosed with kidney failure, stage-4. All too soon, dialysis became a reality and controlled our life and influenced every decision. By a divine miracle and an earthly hero, on September, 4, 2012, Scott received a new chance at life through a kidney transplant by a living donor, his brother, Tim.

How do you thank someone who gives you your life back? I initially wrote the book for Tim’s daughter, Lili. Lili was five when her Dad donated his kidney. I wanted her to always have a reminder of how wonderful her Dad is. Will she remember his sacrifice when she is 10, or 15? The book, which is written from Lili’s perspective, starts with a fun and healthy Uncle Scott and goes through the whole process of being diagnosed with kidney failure, undergoing dialysis, Lili’s Dad choosing to be a donor and recovery from the transplant surgery for both the recipient and the donor.

It was such a success with my friends and family that many people suggested I look into having the book published. The potential to comfort a child, bring hope to someone in need of a kidney transplant, or even bring awareness to the need for living donors was a powerful motivator.
