Breezewood Gardens and Gifts

Tree and shrub installer

I saw to the installation of various plant material, including deciduous and evergreens, both trees and shrubs, as well as other forms of hardscaping. I ran machinery, such as Bobcats and a Toro Dingo (diesel). I was responsible for being safe on the job, and providing the best experience possible for our customers.

Troup Drywall

Drywall Hanger and finisher

Was apprenticed in the installation and finishing of residential and commercial sheetrock. With the use of scaffolding, benches, ladders and stretch-planks I learned how to safely access all areas of a given workspace. We would hang out a house, usually in about a week, then turn around and finish it the next. I was fortunate to learn this trade from Joe Troup, a man who did not cut corners. We shared a work ethic.

Samuel Steel Pickling Co.

Line operator, crane operator, entry operator

Started as a bander and entry operator. We would receive large (up to 60 ton) steel coils for pickling, a process in which the coils are straightened and pulled through a bath of H+ (HCL) to clean the surface. We then slit the coils to customers specifications. After oiling, we would re-coil the steel, band it and store or ship, as requested. I made it to the line operator position, in charge of all steel ran on my shift. A great job. After 9/11, the steel industry began to collapse. I learned much here.
