As the Automation and Data/Comm Manager, I am responsible for all Radar and Communication inputs to the Southern California Terminal Approach Radar Control Center (SCT TRACON). I manage the maintenance program for each unit, strictly adhering to FAA policies and procedures. I approve leave, evaluate performance, and administer disciplinary action when needed for twenty highly trained technicians. I initiate actions to install, repair, or restore systems and services, identifying hazards and ensuring unacceptable risks are mitigated. I collaborate with system users, planners, engineers and contractor personnel in the testing, installation and operation of new or modified systems, documenting safety-related changes, analyzing and assessing risk, identifying hazards and ensuring hazards are tracked to resolution. I also assess risk mitigation strategies and monitor the effectiveness of these strategies throughout the project/program lifecycle ensuring budget constraints are adhered too. I track and provide oversight, perform direct safety-related certification on systems, subsystems, equipment and services in support of the National Air Space (NAS). I am responsible for the oversight of several projects currently in progress at SCT including the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS), and the National Airspace Information Display System (NIDS), which will provide Air Traffic Controllers greater situational awareness improving services and safety the FAA provide to commercial aviation.
