American Heart Association

My passion is giving truth to people power and getting people and communities engaged in the decisions that shape their lives!

US House of Representatives

Community Representative

I represent a US Congressional member by meeting with constituents, coordinating events, and serving as representative for the member in policy areas including education, youth development, women’s Issues, taxes, technology and science, and animal rights. I also manage federal casework in the following areas: taxes/IRS, federal student loans, state and local government.

University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

Family Social Science, Family Violence Prevention

As a transfer student, I felt I had taken a big step to make the most of my education and I knew I had made the right decision from day one. I credit my passion for social justice to my education at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.

Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs

Metro Urban Studies

I participated in the Metro Urban Studies term, a semester long off-campus full time program that focused on inequalities in the economy, housing systems, education, welfare, government policies, urban sprawl, regional race and class segregation, and institutional discrimination. The program included an internship, classes, and site visits within the community.

Promise Zone Initiative Grant Coordination

A crucial component of my federal grant outreach process has involved coordination of grant outreach with organizations with the Minneapolis Promise Zone. I keep potential grant recipients informed of opportunities and offer grant workshops to assist them in the process.

Promise Zones are federally designated, high poverty communities where the federal government partners with local leaders to increase economic activity, improve educational opportunities, and leverage private investment.

“Even in a seemingly futile moment or losing cause, one person may unknowingly inspire another, and that person yet a third, who could go on to change the world, or at least a small corner of it. Mandela called this process “the multiplication of courage.” - Paul Rogat Loeb

My Thinking Talents

My strongest quadrant is Relational. People with these talents are concerned with feelings, morale, teamwork, and development of people. They tend to be "people" people.

People with natural talents here: Tend to get everyone involved, Have a desire to communicate, Care how others feel, Have a desire to help, and Network

Ego says, “Once everything falls into place, I’ll feel peace.” Spirit says, “Find your peace, and then everything will fall into place.” – Marianne Williamson

Gratitude and Moments for Myself

As a professional in an often stressful and fast paced environment, I have learned to recognize burnout. I am constantly enveloped in the issues and concerns of my community and taking little moments to reflect, rejuvenate, and unload the baggage is as important as any project or deadline. My favorite self care practice is to find a cozy coffee shop and take time for myself to reflect on the things I am grateful for.

Many of our fears are tissue paper thin, and a single courageous step would carry us clear through them - Brendan Francis

The Secret to Success

Stay connected to those who are invested in your success and support them in return. Keep the mission and heart of your work at the forefront of everything you do and keep asking yourself if the work brings you closer to that goal. Keep community and the benefit of all at the core of your internal mission. Never feel like an imposter and don't do everything alone.

Nahko Bear (Medicine for the People) Aloha Ke Akua

This song and video give me a tingling sense of connection and awareness of humanity and the universe. It is musically and visually stunning and gives me chills everytime.

My dream job would involve daily interaction with community in a positive and reciprocal setting. I would be directing and innovating resources efficiently while building coalitions or products that optimize community resources and capital.

My Partner Makes it Possible

My husband and I are a true team and we put each other's success first. This has allowed for long distance moves and relocations, sacrificing for each other to make dreams happen and the respect for the work that each of us does. We would be successful without each other but we are more successful together!
