Sara Greer

Digital Marketing Specialist / Web Developer

Driscoll Children's Hospital

I've helped tell some important stories in print, and now I want to tell them online. I developed an eye for design and appreciation for deadlines while working in the news industry. I've recently discovered a passion for programming and web development and am transitioning into a career in tech one commit at a time.

Driscoll Children's Hospital

Digital Marketing Specialist

I do everything from coding email newsletters to front-end development to video editing. I love the flexibility my job gives me in trying new things and learning as I go. In the past year, I've helped launch two redesigned websites, learned WordPress theme development, and have found what may be a new passion for videography.

E.W. Scripps Co.

Newspaper Producer

I moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, to work on a remote design hub for a national newspaper company. It was here I found confidence in my design choices, attempted to guide others in theirs, and eventually felt compelled to leave my chosen professional for a new career in tech.

The Sun Herald

Designer and Copy Editor

After a couple of years drifting through the newsroom ranks, I was given the chance at my first design job after Hurricane Katrina kicked the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the gut. I learned so much there, and was sad to leave. I took a marketing position at a nearby hospital, but after a year realized I hadn't yet given up the newspaper business.

Oregon State University

Computer Science

I spent a little over a year learning software design through an online program for working adults who already had a bachelor's degree. I learned to program in C++, and my favorite class was naturally about usability engineering and designing great user experiences.

Vanderbilt University

Bachelor's of Arts, Anthropology & History

Naively, I only applied to three colleges. Vanderbilt was my first choice, and I was shocked and thrilled to receive a full tuition scholarship. It was far from home and a culture shock. I cried the first semester and considered quitting the second. I stayed - thankfully - and used my time there to figure out what I enjoyed. Research and writing kept me focused.
