Project Engineer

This role is in the field, as part of the Project Management group, for the Construction of a new Bio-Chemical Plant. Reporting to the Director of Projects, I work to maintain the budget and schedule of the construction of the new Bio-Succinic Acid Plant. My role includes the following:
-Maintain clear lines of communication with key vendors to maintain schedule and budget. Work to minimize the impact of change orders and resolve difficulties faced by the vendor in maintaining schedule. Visit vendor shops to maintain a presence and perform basic inspections.
-Act as a bridge between vendor and Company Engineers to resolve conflicts and determine priorities to best satisfy the technical requirements as well as the schedule and budgetary requirements.
-Coordinate with Engineering Contractor, Construction Contractor, and Vendors to address emerging and urgent issues in the field.
-Manage sub-projects and project changes of varying size and complexity from conception through completion.
-Draft and Finalize new Technical Standards, Specifications, and Procedures for Plant and Company wide use.

Mechanical Engineer

Reporting to the Area Discipline Lead of Site Engineering Services, I act as a Lead Engineer, working within the Site Engineering Services Group on a variety of jobs dedicated to the ongoing maintenance of the Syncrude Mildred Lake Upgrading Plant. Projects range from replacement of equipment at end of life, to the installation of new equipment to improve plant operations.
-Prepare Material Requisitions for a variety of equipment including the technical evaluation of vendor proposals. Equipment ranges from off-shelf items to highly engineered items with complex requirements and deliverables.
-Maintenance of vendor relationships during acquisition and commissioning, including the resolution of issues in fabrication and delivery.
-Prepare Engineering Work Packages detailing the installation of equipment including the removal of existing equipment (both equipment to be replaced and obstructing equipment). A variety of teams within Syncrude must be consulted, including Turnaround Planning, Operations, Maintenance, and Contractors.
-Evaluate options in early stages, including wildly different options to achieve the same goal. Impact on existing equipment, real estate, utilities, and total project cost must be analyzed.
-Mentorship of Junior EIT (Engineers in Training) during projects.
-(as part of work with WorleyParsons Services Canada) Preparation of fabrication specification related to duplex stainless steel manufacturing for a major Canadian Refinery.

Reporting to the Director of Inside Sales and Engineering, I am responsible for a variety of activities relating to the processing of quotes for Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers, including:
-Develop Thermal Design from customer process conditions including analysis of all technologies offered in-house, as well as major competing technologies, using HTRI.
-Perform Mechanical Design to optimize offerings and ensure best possible solution according to ASME Code, API 660, and TEMA using Compress, PVElite, and Microprotol.
-Global Material Sourcing to drive competitive advantage and find solutions to customer problems. Working with suppliers to meet delivery requirements or spec. requirements.
-Cost Estimation to ensure competitive pricing. Estimation includes detailed analysis of all NDE, labor, subs, and materials.
-Review and Application of Customer Specifications.
-Respond to Clarifications from technical and non-technical customers. Work with customers to provide solutions to process, design, space, and delivery problems.

Applications Engineering

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, I was called upon to:
Manage turn-key projects to install new control equipment for industrial heaters and boilers. Co-ordinate critical path items to ensure on time installations and start-up.
Perform maintenance and trouble-shooting on existing installations, including both instrumentation and control systems.
‘Tune’ burners for optimal performance based on visual inspection and flue gas analysis. Work with operators to ensure most efficient possible performance.
In my time at Bambeck, I worked at the following plants:
Suncor Sarnia Refinery, Sunoco Marcus Hook Refinery, Valero Houston Refinery, Valero Texas City Refinery, BP Carson City Refinery, USG Torrance, and NRG Arthur Kill.
