AmeriCorps- Alachua County Housing Authority- National Coalition for the Homeless

AmeriCorps- University of Florida

Staff Advisor

I worked in a department of student affairs called the Center for Leadership and Service. Here I was a staff advisor for 4 student groups all focused around mentoring. Specifically these groups connect college students with opportunities to be positive role models for elementary, middle and high school kids throughout Gainesville. In this role I was responsible for the budgets of each organization ( ranging from $500-$1500) as well as helping the boards of each org with recruitment and retention of their member through weekly meetings and monthly workshops.
I also oversaw a scholarship program, ran through americorps, that provides various scholarships to students who do anywhere between 300 and 900 hours of volunteering relating to youth development in a years time.

AmeriCorps- National Coalition for the Homeless- Alachua County Housing Authority

Public speaker

I began this job solely as a public speaking Advocate for the homeless working at the Alachua County Housing Authority. I would arrange opportunities to speak about homelessness in various parts of the community( schools, churches, social group meetings, etc) The goal being to educated the general population about the reality of homelessness not only in our county but the community we live in. I would also recruit and " train" recent or current homeless individuals to tell their stories. This was definitely one of the greatest experiences of my life.
After working at a desk in the housing authority for a month or so I began to get more involved in things they were doing there. I helped write two grants as well as weekly signed people up for the bike registry and a program that helped provide some hot meals to homeless individuals. Through this job experience I learned about the operation of non profits on the business side as well as the governments role in their existence.

Graylyn International Conference Center

Front desk clerk

This was my last summer job while in college and couldn't have been a more valuable experience. I worked specifically with the hotel at Graylyn checking people in and out as well as any needs they may have during their stay. I learned the computer system they used as well as how to do the night audit, as I worked mostly the night shift.
