Roy Chen

Laboratory Engineer

Underwriters Laboratories

San Francisco, CA

A common denominator in all of my jobs is the opportunity to take initiative. I manage best when I take time to connect with my team, understand the “ins-and-outs” of the operation, and use analysis and experience to make decisions

Teamwork: I've always been proud of my abilities to collaborate among teammates, departments, and clients.
Business savvy: I'm not a product of sales but I can grasp the decision making/strategy of businesses.
Management: I enjoy the process of the PLC and embrace the responsibility of reaching goals and meeting deadlines.

Laboratory Engineer

After excelling as a technician, I was afforded an opportunity to manage my own team of 18. Though stressful, the process of managing projects from beginning to end was a thrill. I loved strategizing, planning, and collaborating with my team and multiple departments within my company to achieve our goals and finish the project right.

Laboratory Technician

With a background in business, entering the world of electrical engineering was a challenge but one I looked forward to because I was given the opportunity to test a plethora of new gadgets. Specifically, I tested the Specific Absorption Rate of portable devices for clients. Though the learning curve was steep, I gained a lot of technical experience working in this capacity.

San Jose State University

Bachelor of Science, Business Administration

My time at SJSU provided me with the passion that I have for management, technology, and business strategy. I distinctly remember two professors at SJSU that pushed me towards the idea that business and companies are ever-evolving and you must keep learning to stay relevant! Go Spartans!

The Salvation Army

I am especially proud of my volunteering work with The Salvation Army during the holiday season. As a brass band, we play Christmas Carols to share the holiday spirit and receive donations through the universally-known red kettle.

Doing The Most Good

There's just something about the game that fulfills my competitive spirit and makes cardio fun. In my spare time, I'll play ball for fun, in leagues, and in tournaments. Most recently, my church team visited Portland, OR for an annual tournament and defended our title.
