The University of Glasgow
Digital Media and Communication Intern
August 2015 — Present
I secured a term-time internship within the University focused on social media, content creation and communications for the Employability team at the College of Social Sciences. In this role I manage all social media channels (with a following of over 2,500) and their daily output of tailored content regarding internships, employability advice and events run by the team.
The role requires a lot of independent work and creativity. I design promotional material to advertise our events which I organise alongside the Events management intern and create campaign strategies to ensure the best reach and response to the content and ultimately event attendance. Our events have featured high-profile speakers from the world of Communications, Digital Startups and International Development. During the events I capture video content and live tweet, and have recently started using periscope to live-broadcast.
I launched a media campaign titled "My CoSS Story" to feature students who have been involved in something special to develop their employability skills This campaign has had a fantastic response and its reach has gone far beyond the number of likes we have on our facebook page and has a high level of engagement. Alongside this, I interview exceptional students for our Student Spotlight feature and conduct brief video interviews with students before and after events to ensure we have short content suitable for instagram and single tweets as well as extended versions on our youtube. I have created a new feature called "Speaker Insights", which entails writing, filming and editing video interviews with our events speakers regarding reflections on their career path to share with students and for use to promote further events. This all contributes to my efforts to ensure our output is as personal and people-focused as possible, and I gather all content to write our enewsletter which has a circulation of 9000+.
