Director position created as responsibility and budget increased.

Develop strategic communications plan for the agency. Work closely with the Executive Office to ensure strategic plan aligns with agency mission and message.

Manage Public Information Officer and a team of six communications liaisons to ensure all agency programs, services, events and messages reach the general public as well as community partners and the Texas Legislature.

Oversee all internal and external communications for the agency, including press releases, biweekly email newsletters, public engagement, social media feeds, agency strategic plan, advertising and outreach campaigns.

Ensure brand voice is carried through all external and internal content including publications and interactions.

Analyze new social media channels as they become available to see if content delivery and audience would enhance the Texas Veterans Commission online profile. Work with communications liaisons to implement strategies for those channels that are determined to be a good fit.

Agency liaison for Communications Advisory Committee, a committee of community advocates who advise the Commission on communications issues for Veterans as well as the agency.

Agency liaison for Texas Coordinating Council for Veterans Services Communications and Veterans Outreach Workgroup. Contributed to and edited the First and Second Report.

Graduated from Governors Center for Management Development Senior Management Development program in July 2014.

Support all agency events including planning, attendance, logistics, advertising, media, budgeting, scheduling, site selection, coordinating transportation and parking, arranging for speakers or entertainers, arranging decor, event security, catering and emergency plans.

Chair of Veterans Portal Advisory Committee, which oversees the Veterans Portal on Texas.gov, a website that provides the citizens of Texas information about state programs for Veterans.

Manager, Women Veterans Initiative

Managed the Women Veterans Initiative, which serves Women Veterans by helping them to obtain their benefits and services. Through three Women Veteran Coordinators in the areas of Claims, Employment and Outreach, WVI works to raise awareness of Women Veterans' needs to the public and legislators, as well as informs, educates and connects Women Veterans to the benefits and services available to them.

Helped plan and managed the Women Veterans Initiative Rock Your Camo 5K and Cookie Pack at Camp Mabry on March 8, 2014. Over 500 attendees supported the event through running or packing cookies for troops overseas.

Began the Texas Veterans Commission Women's Circle based on Sheryl Sandberg’s book, Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead. Discussion circles are designed to facilitate dialogue and encourage shared learning between women professionals at all levels. Through the discussion circles, women at TVC have the opportunity to share differing viewpoints and encourage and support each other in an atmosphere of confidentiality and trust.

Developed and oversaw promotional campaigns for the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance, one of which included a print/web/radio ad campaign that covered media outlets across the state. These campaigns increased donations to the fund through the “Veterans Cash” campaign from September – November 2012 and the “Keep the Wheels Turning for Texas Veterans” campaign from May – November 2013.

Implemented and coordinated the Texas Veterans Commission Excellence in Media Awards for the agency’s Communications Advisory Committee. In July 2013, the Commission awarded its first round of Excellence in Media Awards to recognize the contributions of professionals in media bringing awareness to veterans issues in the areas of Print, Radio, Television, Photojournalism and Students.
