Women's Initiative for Self-Employment

Research and Public Policy Intern

The Women's Initiative for Self-Employment helps low-income women start small businesses and become financially independent, resulting in growth in the local economy and job creation. As a public policy intern, I connect elected officials from Oakland and San Francisco to the organization through events and meetings with agency representatives. I also work on keeping track of interactions with elected officials using the Raiser's Edge database, which will be replicated as the organization expands and opens new offices across the nation.

Holiday Recovery

This seasonal position allowed me time after graduation to weigh certain factors involved in my future career choice. As a holiday associate at Macy's, I worked in the fitting rooms managing go-backs and recovery of the department. I often advised customers about products offered and helped them with their purchase decisions. In January, I participated in a store wide inventory process with other members of the Macy's team.

Camp Counselor II

I started at the Kroc Center Day Camp as a Junior Counselor when I was just sixteen, and at age eighteen I was promoted to a Lead Counselor position. Camp groups were separated by age group and theme with three to four counselors in each group. As Lead Counselor, I led the main portion of activities and was responsible for daily duties such as sign in and head count, schedule, and the distribution of activities.
