We Know You’re Busy: 5 Easy Last-Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

In elementary school, I would spend all of October planning the perfect Halloween costume so that on October 31, I was ready for the school Halloween parade and a few hours of trick-or-treating with friends.

Fast-forward 15 years: I was swamped at work when I recently received a message from a friend asking me to accompany him to a Halloween party. My train of thought was as follows: ”Fantastic! This is going to be so much fun! Actually… Wait… What am I going to dress up as?! I really don’t have time to go out and buy a costume!’

What’s a girl to do? I raced to my closet and quickly threw together a few costume ideas. And because I know I’m not the only one with a hectic schedule and last-minute Halloween plans, so I’m sharing them all here with you.

Easy, Last-Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

Throwback: Morton Salt Girl
Put on a bright yellow dress, white knee-highs and flats. Accessorize with an umbrella and a canister of Morton Salt!

Funny: A Nerd
Tuck an oxford shirt into a pair of patterned pants or boyfriend jeans (suspenders are highly recommended). Wrap some tape around the bridge of your glasses (pick up a cheap pair of frames at a drugstore if you’re blessed with good eyesight), throw your hair back into a braid and you’re done!

Mod: The Style Icon (inspired by Edie Sedgwick and Twiggy)
Keep this look simple with a black shift dress and kitten heels. Part your hair on the side and pull it back into a faux pixie cut. Use neutral-colored makeup, a thick swipe of liquid-liner on your upper lash line, fake lashes and multiple coats of mascara. Put on some large, jeweled earrings and walk out the door!

Trendy: Katniss Everdeen
Put your skinny cargo pants to good use! Add a black tee, short black jacket and some black boots. Keep your makeup minimal and pull your hair into a messy braid. Trace the mockingjay symbol onto a piece of paper, cut it out and pin it to your jacket. Sling a black backpack over your shoulder to finish the look.

Classic: A Black Cat
All that’s required is a black top, black cropped pants and cute black shoes. Cut out cat ears on paper and tape them to a black headband. Grab a black eyeliner to draw a few whiskers on your face and you’re ready to go! If you have a few extra minutes to spare, use the same black eyeliner on your eyes for a cat-eye look.

These are so cute! The cat is totally the way to go... Easy peasy. (Elle Fanning was the Morton Salt girl once!!! Creepy that I know that, but it was seriously a cute costume!)

I love the idea for the Morton Salt girl!

Morton Salt Girl is a really cute idea. Along those lines, I would also add to the list Rosie the Riveter (red bandana, chambray shirt, some biceps). She is always a winner.

I'm going as the Devil with a Blue Dress from that old old song. Since I'll be in the office, I have to keep it fairly low key, so I'm just wearing a blue dress and devil horns! :)
