More Women Than Ever Before Are Going to Harvard Business School

Viewing on Levo:

Only you can see this list

Exciting things are happening at Harvard, particularly over at the business school. According to The Harvard Gazette, a record number of women will be entering Harvard Business School this fall, making up 40% of the class of 2015. Way to go, ladies!

So why is this especially impressive? It was only in 1971 that women made up just 4% of the HBS student body, and there wasn’t even a ladies’ room in the business school building until 1969. Prior to then, female students had to hike all the way to the basement of the Baker Library to use the bathroom.

Business schools are still behind in female enrollment compared to medical and law schools, but it’s looking like that could soon change. According to the Graduate Management Admission Council, the number of women taking the GMAT has increased by 10% in the past decade alone. Additionally, business schools are making a major push to recruit more women, so we could certainly see more females earning their MBAs in the near future.

Congratulations to the ladies of the Harvard Business School Class of 2015, and here’s hoping that this trend continues!
