Lauren Graham's Advice To Her High School Self Will Totally Reassure You (Even If You Are Way Past High School)

We're officially jealous of Langley High School's class of 2017. The Virginia high school threw a pretty stellar commencement that included a very famous alumnus speaker indeed: Gilmore Girls' Lauren Graham. Which got Glamour's Cindi Levine thinking: What does the famous actress wish someone had told her when she was graduating?

Graham said that if she could, she'd reassure herself to slow down, and to stop and smell the roses. "You don't have to have anything done by now," she said. "There doesn't have to be some sign that you're destined for anything in particular."

Graham said that when she graduated, she felt a "huge amount of anxiety and worry and pressure" as she headed into acting school. "[Acting] was 100 percent the only thing I thought I wanted to do," she said. "But then I got through my first year of college, and I was, like, humming and rolling around, pretending to be a lion [in acting classes at NYU] and visiting [classmate] Charlie Gregg at Harvard, where he was actually learning things. So I changed my mind: I decided I actually wanted a different kind of education, and that was an incredibly freeing idea."

She then transferred to Barnard College. "How could I possibly have known everything I was supposed to know about the way to conduct my life as a senior in high school?" she added.

Graham currently lives with actor Peter Krause, who "didn't find an interest in being an actor until the very end of college," she said.

"So my message is: There's so much freedom left. There’s no ticking clock. It’s just not true," she said.
