Pregnancy can be an overwhelming and vulnerable time, so it’s easy to want to disappear into baggy clothes. But you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for professionalism. Check out these tips on how to dress professionally at work without compromising your style or comfort:

1. Make sure you have plenty of staples on hand.

Consider colors such as black, brown, blue, and gray. Purchase trousers or skirts without patterns and combine them with interesting shirts and sweaters. You could also get blazers and jackets to wear over top, mixing things up so you don’t become bored with your wardrobe. As Tracey Porpora wrote, if you stay away from the most current maternity fashion trends, you’ll be more likely to want to wear them again the next time you’re pregnant – should that be your goal?

2. Wear A-line.

The A-line term was first used by Christian Dior in 1955 when he named his spring collection after the shape of the clothing. The A-line style is still trendy for both pregnant and non-pregnant women because it makes any woman look thinner. The fitted fabric at the top and flared bottom can be found on skirts, maternity work dresses, shirts, etc.

3. Accessorize.

Women love accessories like scarves and jewelry because they can take one outfit and mix it up with different combinations to have a whole new look. And the great thing about them is that you can still wear them after you have a baby and they will fit exactly the same!

4. Picking the right shoes is essential.

While some might say that a great pair of heels can make or break an outfit, I would argue that if you’re seven months pregnant and struggling to fit your feet into those uncomfortable red pumps, it’s probably time to switch to flats. You don’t need sky-high heels to look amazing.

If you’re insistent on wearing heels, go for a low pair that won’t pinch your toes as they grow.

5. Buy coats and jackets that are roomy.

As the weather starts to get colder, you’ll want a coat that will keep you warm through the winter months. If you’re pregnant, especially in your second or third trimester, you won’t be able to fit into your regular coat anymore. Make sure whatever coat you choose is comfortable and has enough room to accommodate your growing belly, ensuring a cozy addition to your pregnancy outfits for work.
