Kathryn Moos is the founder of VROU, a women’s health, and wellness brand. The company’s mission is to change the way women take vitamins. Its first product is a nutritious beverage that contains an excellent source of 12 different vitamins, electrolytes, and antioxidants. We at Levo approved—it tastes best served cold! Moos is passionate about the empowerment of women and building self-confidence in young girls everywhere, which has led her to create a brand that does more than just sell drinks. We met up with Moos in Washington Square Park to learn more about this vitamin-rich drink she’s so passionate about–and left completely jealous of her impressive arms.

Education:

Job:

Founder and CEO, VROU

Brief Description of VROU:

At VROU, we believe that women’s health and wellness should be straightforward and accessible. That’s why we offer a range of nutrient-rich products specifically for women. VROU’s multivitamin drink, complete with antioxidants and electrolytes, is perfect for women who have busy lifestyles. VROU can be found at many locations throughout Manhattan, such as Whole Foods, Eli Zabar’s, and the Reebok Club!

As a reward for crowdfunding VROU’s campaign that just started on Plum Alley (a recent platform made especially for women entrepreneurs), you can have a big impact by buying it.

Where were you before VROU?

After I graduated from Brown, I moved to Europe to play professional soccer – something I had dreamed of my entire life. Once I retired from the sport, however, I realized that it was much harder to get the nutrients my body needed working a finance job at CBRE. I was motivated to create something for women who are similar to me.

What was your dream job growing up?

Playing soccer professionally has always been a dream of mine, and my goal is to one day play for the US Women’s National team.

Your personal style in a few words:

Sporty. I’m an athlete at heart. I eat, work out, and dress like one!

Go-to outfit for meetings:

What I wear to a meeting usually varies depending on the day and type of meeting, but you can typically find me in workout clothes or gear from my company VROU. With that said, I do enjoy dressing up more with a nice pair of jeans, a blazer, and heels!

Article of clothing (or accessory) you can’t live without:

I am absolutely fascinated by watches and would love to collect them someday!

Favorite brand of fitness gear

Under Armour’s gear is some of the best on the market, but they are also doing something much more important- they are empowering women and showing them that it is okay to embrace their inner tomboy. This message means a lot to me, as I have always considered myself a bit of a tomboy.

A day running Vrou looks like:

I love that each day is different! We’re always out sampling VROU and talking to consumers. It’s what keeps me going! However, we are also trying to build a sound foundation by sales meeting, raising capital, and strategic branding initiatives.

Office culture in a few words:

Scrassy (classy + scappy): willing to do whatever it takes with poise and dignity.

How many people are on your team?

We currently have three people on the core team and a handful of talented interns. We want to expand our company by bringing in more driven individuals that can handle pressure and enjoy generating new opportunities.

What is the hardest part about starting a business?

Being your own boss means that you have the power to create your own schedule. You get to decide how you want to spend your time. And there’s never a shortage of things to do, so managing time and trying to still find time for things not specific to VROU are a challenge.

Favorite part of your job:

I feel incredibly lucky that I get to meet such diverse and interesting women on a daily basis, be it in the grocery store or at conferences. Every time I see a woman achieving her dreams, it makes me want to work harder and pursue my own goals. I hope that every other woman feels the same sense of accomplishment.

Morning routine:

I meditate and exercise in the morning, followed by a nutritious breakfast that always includes an apple. Then I’m off to tackle my day!

What do you do to relax?

Even though working out is technically not relaxing, it’s one of the best ways for me to clear my mind and get energy for the day.

On Saturday you can be found:

At Whole Foods, we want to help our customers learn about and experience VROU for the first time!

Favorite lifestyle/health/fitness blogs?

My favorite website for health tips is Well and Good. They also have information on local events, which I enjoy reading about. Fashionable Hostess is a natural when it comes to fashion, food and wine! But most importantly, her passion shines through.

Coffee drink (or alternative) of choice?

Coffee (black), but a bottle of VROU is a morning must!

Favorite workout:

I usually like to go for a run, lift weights, do yoga and play soccer. Unfortunately, though, I have been starting up my own business lately so I’ve been time-poor. Consequently, I work out intensely a few times each week to compensate. It’s really important to get rid of any reason why you can’t find time to exercise!

Favorite food:

The old saying goes that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. But we say, three apples are even better!

Why is it worth it?

After speaking with several women, I realized they all feel the same way about the lack of trustworthiness and reliable information in the female nutrition space. These women also didn’t know where to turn to get needed nutrients. I know we’re onto something big that can really change the world. Women often connect with our social mission at VROU, and for me personally, working with a charity like Girls on the Run NYC is more fulfilling than I ever dreamt possible. It warms my heart to see the self-confidence that these programs foster in young girls, especially through running (something I love).

Best piece of advice ever received:

“Luck doesn’t just happen, luck is created by putting yourself in the best position to succeed.” This isn’t just a saying to me, it’s my life motto.

My mentor:

Janet Hanson is a former powerhouse on Wall Street and the founder of 85 Broads, a global network of over 30,000 trailblazing women. Janet is a true trailblazer, and she has been an amazing champion for women all over the world. She has been a huge source of strength and confidence for me as I started my own business journey, and I am incredibly grateful to her.

In 10 years:

VROU will soon be the go-to women’s health brand.
