For many, Sunday evenings are dreaded – a harbinger of the start of another week.

An insightful poll conducted by Monster.com in 2013 discovered that an incredible 78% of adults all over the world suffer from regular bouts of the “Sunday night blues.”

Despite how much satisfaction you derive from your job, and perhaps even the anticipation of returning to work after a break, “it’s easy to feel a bit of trepidation on Sundays about the stresses waiting for you on Monday morning,” As Laura Vanderkam articulates in her best-selling book “What The Most Successful People Do On The Weekend,”

To combat the Sunday night blues, here’s what successful people do on weekends:

1. They spend quality time with their families, friends, and significant others.

Efficient people are aware that their weeks will be hectic and they won’t always have the availability, As Roy Cohen, a career coach and author of “The Wall Street Professional’s Survival Guide” so eloquently states. To make the most of their Sundays, they cherish quality time with family and friends.

2. They plan something fun.

“This idea may be the most important tip,” Vanderkam eloquently pens. “This extends the weekend and keeps you focused on the fun to come, rather than on Monday morning.”

Vanderkam cites Caitlin Andrews, a librarian, who reports that her extended family meets for Sunday supper together on an alternate basis. “It takes my mind off any Sunday night blues that might be coming on,” According to Andrews.

Why not make Sundays the perfect night for a movie marathon or some pampering? Joining a Sunday evening bowling league could be fun too!

3. They organize and plan for the weekend.

If you’re looking to get ahead of the curve, career coach Marsha Egan suggests setting goals and deadlines for the week on Sunday night. However, it’s important to ensure that this doesn’t lead to excessive anxiety — keep your expectations realistic and achievable!

4. They exercise.

To stay physically active, Dr. Egan recommends taking a stroll to explore your surroundings, playing an exciting game of tennis with friends and family, or signing up for a fitness class at the gym.

In her book, Vanderkam reveals that Aliza Rosen, a well-known reality TV producer, enjoys hot yoga every Sunday evening. “It’s a great way for me to sweat out the toxins of the week and center myself for Monday,” Rosen shared his thoughts with Vanderkam.

5. They catch up on reading that has been neglected.

Many successful people make reading on Sunday nights a part of their routine, as it is an essential component to achieving success. By carving out time for nightly reading – even just before bedtime – you can gain valuable insight and wisdom that will help take your career or business to the next level.

6. They follow up on commitments.

“When we make promises [during the week] there is never enough time to follow through,” According to Cohen, Sundays are typically the day of the week when we can take time away from our busy schedules and focus on replying to emails or completing other tasks.

7. They relax.

To ensure that you are adequately prepared for a week of hard work, getting an optimal amount of restful sleep and eating nutritiously is paramount. “Fuel for the body and mind,” Cohen says.

8. They volunteer.

“[Another] great way to end the weekend is to volunteer,” Vanderkam’s book emphasizes that nothing will give you a respite from life’s pressures like serving those in need. She encourages readers to keep this key idea in mind when searching for an escape from stress. “It’s a way to connect with humanity before everyone goes their separate ways for the week.”

9. They end Sunday on a high note.

“Monday will come regardless of how you feel, so try to engage in positive thinking and reflect on positive experiences before ending your weekend,” According to Michael Woodward, Ph.D., an organizational psychologist and author of “The YOU Plan”,
