It's International Women's Day! This is a day where we celebrate women by working towards gender equality. There are a lot of ways to participate in this day either through social media support initiatives (the official message for IWD is #PressForProgress) or attending events AND there are so many wonderful brands (many of your favorites!) that are celebrating this day as well. By supporting them you will help so many different charities all over the world that are all about promoting the power of women. Here are a few you should check out.
Your favorite jeans brand is partnering with Random House to promote The Little Book of Feminist Saints, written by Julia Pierpont and illustrated by Manjit Thapp. The book features biographies and portraits of secular “saints” who broke boundaries and made history - from Oprah and Audre Lorde to Gloria Steinem to Pussy Riot.
Plus, if you’re in New York today, they welcome you to stop by Madewell’s Fifth Avenue store for a reading and book signing with the author (more details here). And if you’re outside of NYC, please stop by any Madewell location from 6-8pm on 3/8 for sips, snacks, and shopping. 25% of sales from the evening in all Madewell stores will benefit Girls Inc., a nonprofit that inspires girls to be strong, smart, and bold.
These two brands have teamed up to introduce the new Femme Pouch, an elegantly designed accessory meant to empower women to carry their essentials (like tampons) with pride. Each pouch will include a complimentary LOLA tampon inside, so you always have an extra on-hand.
Health Warrior and justBOBBI
Health Warrior, the award-winning superfood snack company that creates food that actually feeds you, along with justBOBBI, the modern lifestyle platform created by entrepreneur, beauty icon and author Bobbi Brown, have created a 90-calorie Dragon Fruit Chia Bar exclusively for Girls Inc., the organization that empowers girls to be strong, smart, and bold through direct service and advocacy. All of the profits from sales of the “most beautiful” bar will go to the 150-year-old organization that, along with its supporters, is committed to fueling the fire within all girls, so they can change the world. Now THAT’s beautiful.
SoulCycle x A.L.C.
Your favorite spin brand is showing its support this year with a female empowerment tank top that will be sold in-studio, with 100% of proceeds going to StepUp - a charity propelling girls from under-resourced communities to fulfill their potential by empowering them to become confident, college-bound, career-focused and ready to join the next generation of professional women. The tank top ($48), designed by A.L.C.’s Andrea Lieberman, will be sold exclusively at SoulCycle studios starting Thursday, March 8.
Aerie and Aly Raisman
This SURVIVOR suit, inspired by the Olympic medalist, benefits Darkness to Light, an organization that devotes itself to creating a safer world for kids and empowering adults to prevent child sexual abuse. Available at Aerie ($45.)
La Ligne and Cleo Wade
The chic fashion brand La Ligne NYC has partnered with artist, poet and all around cool-girl Cleo Wade on a special t-shirt, called The “AccountabiliTEE.” It features Cleo’s powerful words “I will tell on you." The AccountabiliTEE is available for purchase starting March 8th, on lalignenyc.com for $35, with 100% of proceeds donated to Time's Up.
YogaGlo, an online yoga and meditation platform that features thousands of professionally-filmed yoga, meditation, and lecture classes, will be honoring the special day with a deeply personal, moving campaign titled, “From Stereotypes to Superpowers.” The brand is highlighting real women who are fearlessly embracing their vulnerabilities. The striking imagery YogaGlo captured for this campaign shows each woman proudly wearing their stereotype written in lipstick on various parts of their body. Participants include Sophie Jaffe, Veena Crownholm, SoulCycle Instructor Madeleine Starkey, Ara Katz, and April Uchitel.
