A new year clearly means you need a whole new wardrobe. Although that would be nice, most of us can’t afford to do that or really want to. We’ve came up with a list of just a few items you need to update your wardrobe for 2014.
1. Pointy flats
I love my ballet flats as much as the next girl, but let’s change it up. Pointy flats are a bit more edgy and professional and just say “I’m here to work.” Plus (this one is for you petite ladies) according to StyleCaster, pointy flats can actually make you look taller.
2. Add stripes
Who doesn’t like a good stripe? You’ll feel so chic and French. A striped top with a pencil skirt or just black pants automatically makes you look more sophisticated.
3. Embrace the flare
We love our skinny jeans, but we’ve been wearing them for so long. Maybe our ankles would like a little more room? Why not get in touch with your inner 70s vibe and get some flare in there.
4. Block heels
Stilettos will also be in style, but give your foot a break and sport a thicker heel. Jenna Lyons, Chief Creative Officer of J.Crew, designed some super gorgeous ones.
5. Statement jewelry
Nothing revs up an outfit like a great statement necklace. The styles may change over the season, but a great piece of jewelry is forever. Try Bauble Bar for your next piece!
Yes, it is the dead of winter but that doesn’t mean you can’t dream of spring and soft colors. Adding a little pastel to your wardrobe will make you feel all fuzzy inside.
Dianna Barros, founder of The Budget Babe, reminds us that the Pantone color of the year is Radiant Orchid. “A gorgeous pink / purple hue that looks great on everyone. Pick up a cardigan or lipstick in this shade to brighten up your winter wardrobe and wear into spring,” she said.
7. A utility jacket
A leather jacket will always be cool and a great fitted wool coat gives off a polished and professional look, but sometimes you need to have a little fun. Utility jackets are still hot right now so grab one. Mix it with something feminine to give that perfect blend of soft and edgy.
8. Get a new bag
A new bag can make all the difference to the wardrobe. This year keep your eye on designer Claire Vivier. She makes beautiful pieces that won’t break the bank.
9. Midi skirts
The midi length skirt is great because it’s not quite as uptight as a pencil skirt but more responsible (and easier to sit in) than a mini skirt. It is a great length for work and play so go get one.
10. Add a pop of color
Brightening up your ensemble with a bold color is still a great move. Try a bright cardigan, skirt or scarf!
