I chose to spend my third semester of my Master's studies abroad in an internship at Grundfos Manufacturing Hungary.
During the first two months of my internship I worked on investigating the data and reporting set-up for two new plant level KPIs (WIP and lead time). My work resulted in a set of recommendations for improvement regarding the maintenance of master data as well as for how to begin bringing down the WIP and lead time levels, which were since implemented.
For the remainder of the internship I worked as an assistant in a lean implementation project team consisting of Hungarian engineers and British lean change managers. The purpose of the project was to implement lean on a major production line. We had success with implementing visual management in the form of a performance management information board and daily action meetings, as well as implementing tools for root problem identification and systematic problem solving. The achievements resulted in significantly increased volume, quality and lead time as well as reduced absenteeism.
I worked as a research assistant on a research project at Center for Industrial Production titled "Production 2025". The purpose of the project was to determine the challenges facing Danish industry in the year 2025, and develop suggestions for how to prepare the industry for these challenges. The study involved high ranked employees from all the major Danish companies in a workshop setting.
My role was to prepare material for the workshops, help facilitate group discussions during the workshops, document the topics and discussions during the workshops, and subsequently formalize this in workshop reports.
