VDP Automation Specialist at Rastar
Responsible for the day to day activities of my assigned clients. I would communicate when necessary with Sales, Scheduling and Production to insure that the client was getting what they requested and in a timely manner. I was responsible for gathering any necessary paperwork for billing at the end of the job then turning it into accounting as quickly as possible. I kept spreadsheets for tracking purposes for Sales. I compiled monthly billing worksheets for one of our program clients. I would cover for other Business Managers as needed and help out with other requests from my Manager or Team Leader.
In October 2010, I was asked to move into the role as Master Scheduler for Rastar. I immediately began to implement a new and creative way of scheduling the daily production activities across all departments within Rastar.
Within months I was successful in moving away from the traditional magnetic board with scheduling cards for each process of Offset Finishing only. This newly developed scheduling process allowed me to now be able to schedule departments in the Shipping, Buyouts, Mail, Digital Print, Large Format and Fulfillment operations, which until then had no real view into what was coming their way each day. As the Master Scheduler this allowed me to see immediate potential bottlenecks and to work proactively with the affected areas or persons to resolve the issues long before they impacted the clients due dates.
The scheduling process allowed the team leads and Managers to review and forecast more accurately the needs of their areas in relation to staffing and workloads. This also allowed for visibility in the three locations of Rastar. Having this scheduling system in place allowed for the movement of employees of slower areas to move into the overloaded areas allowing for cross departmental use of employees allowing all workers to get their hours and reduce overtime in other areas.
I also facilitated the daily production meeting which included customer service, manufacturing leads, shipping, and at times sales to insure that the entire teams were staying on task to meet due dates.
As the Master Scheduler I was in constant communication with all aspects of Print, Sales, Purchasing, Shipping, and Outside Vendors.
The Scheduling process that I implemented in 2010 is still in use today for the scheduling of Rastar work.
