Co-Founder & Director of Business Development

A passion for justice and diversity, lived out through the lens of music, mentoring, entrepreneurship, and education. Globetrotter. Storyteller. Closet nerd. Musician. People driven, data informed.

Co-Founder & Director of Business Development

PNU is the real-world extension of the Berklee Women's Empower Symposium, and is a mission close to my heart. It combines my passion for diversity and the music industry with my experience in education and mentorship. We organize events, initiate dialogue, and are developing a mentorship model to inspire young women to pursue careers in the music industry while creating a climate of diversity, benefiting men and women alike.

"If we fail to explore several perspectives, we risk confusing the stability of our mindset with the stability of the phenomenon itself." - Ellen Langer

Berklee Women's Empower Symposium

During my time at Berklee Valencia, I teamed up with 9 other women in the Music Business program to create a powerful solution to a problem we observed. The Challenge? A lack of female mentors, speakers, and role models. The Solution: A daylong symposium featuring powerhouse female music industry leaders from around the world.

Freelance - Universities

Curriculum & Pedagogical Consultant

Due to my experience as an educator, pedagogical training, and history of curriculum development, I found a niche at universities that choose to bring in industry professionals to teach courses, rather than qualified teachers. I provide instructors with assistance developing course syllabuses and assessments, give pedagogical support, and help program directors get inside the nitty gritty parts of each class in order to ensure a comprehensive program for students. This work is freelance, and ongoing on a project-by-project basis.

Disrupción Records

COO / Operations

Berklee Valencia's campus record label is student run under faculty advisement. We secure musical talent from within the Berklee community (A&R), then record, release, and market them and their work. I made sure all the different teams ran like clockwork. In 2015, we signed The George Lacson Project and Djank Yucca. // Pictured: the obligatory selfie with our vinyl.

The Allen-Stevenson School

Lower School Music Teacher

After student teaching at Allen-Stevenson in 2009, I was invited to return when a position opened up in 2012. During my tenure, I advocated for cultural diversity by exploring musics from many corners of the world with my students. By engaging with foreign cultures and concepts in a safe environment, students were able to practice respectfulness when interacting with diversity. Not only did students become excited about our multicultural repertoire, many were emboldened to share parts of their cultural history with friends and classmates. The positive impact was experienced (and vocalized) by hundreds of students and their families. // Pictured: students practicing a traditional Chinese song and dance.

My multi-cultural efforts through music caught the attention of families & administration at Allen-Stevenson. Check out the article (pp. 21-23) about the power of music.

"It is one thing for the world to be made small, and different for it to be made more intimate. It is important that we become more intimate."

Hebrew Language Academy Charter School

Music Teacher

This was my first experience in a dual language setting. Although music classes were conducted in English, students all learned Hebrew, and many spoke neither English nor Hebrew as their primary language. I developed extreme patience and excellent multicultural communication skills while teaching here. Most exciting, though, was the opportunity I had to serve as department head, mentor the new teacher in my department, and develop a new curriculum from scratch.

Ross Global Academy Charter School

Lower School Music Teacher

The Ross system of education focuses on educating the whole child for the whole world - it is intentionally immersive and collaborative. At RGA I had the privilege to teach not only music classes, but develop content and co-teach in new ways. I worked closely with the dance, visual art, and classroom teachers to innovate a course titled "Integrated Arts," which looked at the content covered in classroom curriculums through the lens of music, dance, and visual art (with the occasional technology integration).

CIS 303

Music Teacher

Community Intermediate School 303 is a public middle school located in the South Bronx of New York City. Although my job title was "Music Teacher," much of my work was connecting with and mentoring students informally, as well as my formal role as a student advisor. I learned a different cultural standard for honor, fought to keep my students alive and out of gangs, and sought to improve school and life in whatever ways I could through music.

Kids Take The Stage

Music/Vocal Director

KTTS was diving into the deep end: my first full-fledged teaching role, as opposed to a Teaching Assistant. For two summers, I served as music/vocal director for an intensive children's musical theater program. In 4-5 weeks, a small team (myself, a director, a choreographer, and an intern) took 40-60 children ages 5-17 and put on a full-length musical.

“No art is nearer to life than music.” - Emile Jaques-Dalcroze

Megan as a Musician

In addition to my career as a music teacher, I spend time arranging, conducting, and performing (I am a flautist and a vocalist) in several vicinities. I sing in a community chorus, arrange music and conduct a church choir (pictured), and play in / conduct musical theater orchestra pits at both amateur and professional levels.
