Senior Technical Specialist

Applying expertise to support Northland Power's project origination, development and construction activities. Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering and interfacing closely with the development, construction and operations teams.
Key responsibilities include:
• Managing electrical scope for projects within construct ion and operations
• Mentoring of junior and intermediate electrical engineers
• Training of staff on plant operations, protection and controls
• Providing electrical engineering support for development projects
• Managing and directing project engineering firm(s) retained to complete project conceptual and detailed design
• Developing technical scope of work requirements for new construction projects or facility improvement projects
• Providing technical assistance during facility outages
• Conducting site visits including equipment manufacturing and repair facilities
• Providing oversight and coordination of external electrical resources
• Coordinating electrical interconnection studies and applications
• Following development of new technologies and methods in power plant design and construction, particularly for solar and wind projects
• Developing strategic engineering initiatives

Subject matter expert providing technical direction and guidance, promoting engineering best practices related to electrical engineering area of expertise. Member of Stantec's Ontario business development team for Renewable Energy Division, involved with tenders' risk assessment, technical content reviews and negotiation meetings. High level technical liaison across different business functions, in dealings with local utilities, independent power producers and EPC contractors. Oversee the development, evaluation or review of plans and criteria for a variety of engineering activities; assess feasibility of proposed plans, projects and equipment, review electrical power studies.
Responsible for hiring, mentoring and managing talent. Set goals, establish priorities, manage resources, develop concepts and approaches, make management decisions.
Supervise subordinate personnel including determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
