Basildon District Scouting Community

Youth Media Manager

I am responsible for the promotion of scouting to the currently disinterested youths of Basildon - which so far has been confined to a trio of promotional videos which I have put together from various photos and video footage of the scouts of Basildon that have been taken over the years. It also involves getting the local scout groups online, providing them with an easy website template, instructing them on how to use it etc. and, of course, taking photos and videos of everything that I can that happens in the district, archiving them and making sure that the right people get them at the right time.

Kingston Ridge Scout Campsite

As a volunteer here, I've helped with the maintenance and development of the campsite and its facilities, and also, more recently, I've been tasked with the long-awaited reconstruction of their website, and also the organisation of one of the many various events that are hosted there, the "Scary Walk", which acts as both a fundraiser, and an opportunity for local scouts to have some fun at Halloween.

Vision Pharmacy

Pharmacy Assisstant

As a pharmacy assisstant, I dealt with deliveries: checking the invoices, stocking the drugs, filing etc. and distributing prescriptions to customers and filing their prescriptions. Also, there were the types of tasks that one would expect of a supermarket assistant - cleaning, stocking the shelves, helping the customers.

Essex Boys and Girls Club

National Citizenship Service

The National Citizenship Service, or NCS for short, is a government run programme that allows young people, such as myself to experience new things, gain new skills, and make new friends. Being a scout, I'd already done quite a bit of what we did at NCS, but I was put out of my comfort zone, because I didn't know anybody, but by the end of the first day, I'd already made new friends. Also, I had the opportunity to go through a basic first aid training course, and to volunteer to do something good, something worthwhile for the community.

William Edwards School

During my time here, I was a PAL, where I helped the younger, and sometimes older students if they were having any issues in terms of bullying, or just wanted to talk. I was also a prefect, which meant that I was one of many students tasked with maintains the high standards of behaviour throughout the school. I was also a member of the Student Executive, a group of select students in Year 11 chosen to lead the student body by example, and to make decisions for the student body. I was also a member of the school Shakespeare company, and I had a leading in role in one of the numerous school musicals that I starred in.
