Artscool 4 Kids

San Diego, CA

I come from a strong background in dance, classical music, and fine art, and I currently teach art to elementary school children in San Diego, CA. I also hold a Master's in Education. Now I wish to transition into a new career, and I am seeking that sweet spot where beauty, impact, and social progress intersect.

Can little kids paint Kandinsky's? You bet. Through guided lessons and lively discussions, my students learn to see through an artist's eyes and are given weekly opportunities to experiment with new media, color, drawing techniques, and their own creative style. After only 1 hour, each child leaves class with a masterpiece, and their pride and a sense of accomplishment soars.

University of San Diego

Master's of Education, Counseling

After graduating from college as an undergrad, I worked in a psychiatric hospital and residential treatment center for children and teenagers who had come from backgrounds of extreme physical and sexual abuse. The stories were profound, and horrific. Wanting to give hope to this population, I chose to finish an M.Ed in Counseling so that I could mentor first generation and at-risk teens at the junior college level. For 5 years, I worked at San Diego Mesa College, helping students to transfer into 4-year universities and discover fulfillment and purpose in their lives.

Bachelor of Arts, Dance

For the first half of my life, I was a dancer. I trained hard, every day, for 16 years. So often people would tease me about my major, exclaiming, "Oh, that must be fun!" But dance isn't about fun. Dance is about a work ethic and commitment to excellence - in technique, artistry, and physical capability. The discipline required is bar none, but the rewards are other-worldly.
