Research shows that most of us are incredibly networked and know a lot of people but still report feeling the kind of loneliness that comes with not feeling known by a prioritized few. In other words, we are more connected than ever but still feel disconnected.
Shasta Nelson, the author of the brand new book, Frientimacy: How to Deepen Friendships for Lifelong Health and Happiness, calls this largely unacknowledged feeling of disconnection an “Intimacy Gap”. We have these gaps between the friendships we have and the ones we wish we had in our personal lives and in the offices where we work.
Far too often we’re left feeling like there is little we can do to develop the more supportive relationships that will improve our careers and lives. But that’s simply not true.
