Speaker: Andrea Carcelén, MPH, Global Health Professional who has hands on experience supporting the CDC’s Emergency Operations Center Polio & Ebola Response.

Andrea is a public health advisor on the measles team in the Accelerated Disease Control Branch, Global Immunization Division, Center for Global Health. She received a B.A. in International Affairs, with a concentration in global public health, and French from the George Washington University and an MPH in maternal and child health from the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB). From 2008-2010, Andrea worked at the UAB’s Department of Preventive Medicine on breast and cervical cancer prevention among Hispanic and other minority populations. In 2010, Andrea joined CDC as a Presidential Management Fellow in the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Disease (NCIRD), focusing on policy issues and capacity building for state health departments. Andrea has worked in the Global Immunization Division since 2011, working on the Stop Transmission of Polio team, partner coordination for GPEI and Measles-Rubella Initiative, and providing technical assistance for outbreak response and vaccine introduction. Andrea worked on the Nigeria polio team, with a focus on polio eradication efforts and inactivated polio vaccine introduction. She also helped set up the EOC in Nigeria as part of the ebola response. In her current role, she is focusing on providing technical assistance to countries for measles risk assessment, surveillance strengthening, and monitoring of immunization campaigns.
