Lisa Gabrielson

Associate Editor

Sailing World Magazine, Bonnier Corporation

I'm a journalist and editor based in Newport, Rhode Island. Though my full- time job and speciality is sailing journalism, I've written on a variety of topics in my freelance career. I also have experience in marketing, social media and brand management.

"My mother said to me, 'If you become a soldier, you'll be a general. If you become a monk, you'll be the pope.' So I became a painter and wound up as Picasso." -Pablo Picasso

Outside of work, I love taking photos, sailing, traveling, studying art history, cooking, and running. I am passionate about the continued development of women and girl's education across the globe, as well as animal rescue programs in the United States. I am also a member of the Junior League of Rhode Island.

Bonnier Corporation Publications- Sailing World Magazine

Associate Editor

My job has many aspects, from web to print to video. I manage the front of the book section for each issue, as well as complimenting online content. All contracts and payments for stories, both in my section and the rest of the book, are managed by me. I assist in managing the brand's social media profiles. I'm also on site at events to help with execution and event coverage. Finally, I write and photograph for both online and print. I cover Olympic Sailing specifically, but have had the opportunity to delve into many different aspects of the sport, as well as write and edit for our sister publication, Cruising World Magazine.

Marion Bermuda Race, Inc.

Social Media and Digital Outreach Coordinator

My role is to execute a full outreach plan to increase number of race participants as well as increase corporate sponsorship revenue for the race. I
monitor social media and have implemented an eMail marketing plan consisting of regular eNewsletters and eBlasts, content development, newsletter layout, deployment and tracking. In 2015, the marketing company I was formally employed with brought Marion Bermuda on as a client, and I was brought on as a manager for the account. The 2015 race was the first race in a decade where participation numbers increased, rather than decreased, from the previous competition. I also get to compete in the race—an added bonus! In 2015, racing aboard s/v Etoile, I was able to live-blog for Sailing World.
