Income Assistance and Disability worker

Throughout my twenty one years working for Social Services I have worked many programs including all facets of the Saskatchewan Assistance Plan. I have worked in Income Support programs since 2002 and Family Service programs from 1993 to 2001.

Duties included are approving benefits for social assistance and maintaining a caseload of often difficult and challenging clients who may have physical and mental health issues, drug addiction, family problems and other socio economic problems. Other duties include counselling, working with other community agents, case planning and referring to other community groups.

Some of my experience includes facilitating employment programs such as Jobs First and Accelerated Initiatives to Employment.

Other duties have brought me to community development projects like participating on the South Central Harm Reduction team and being a member of drug court.

I have also been a part of developing a 'Code of Ethics' document for the Income Support division for the last year including all phases of development and implementation. Our department has also formed a 'Culture' committee which I have participated on.

Other positions I have had with the Ministry include Child Protection worker, Therapeutic Foster home coordinator,
Childcare worker and the Teen Parent program. All of these positions included assessment, development of a plan, implementation, evaluation and closure. As foster home coordinator I was responsible
for curriculum and facilitating frequent meetings, and frequent home visits.
