Smallcakes Durham

Currently bringing people together over food, which I enjoy, but looking to return to my public health roots. I want to be of service to others and feel stimulated by what I do everyday!

Smallcakes Durham

Assistant Manager

At Smallcakes I had the opportunity to be part of a small business for the first time that was in its first year if business. The best part was the amount of responsibility I was given & the chance to see how the business worked - and of course, access to cupcakes! My favorite part of the work was being part of a small team and organizing fun events with other local vendors.

AmeriCorps

Family Resource Center Assistant

Never imagined I would work in a high school, but I did & it was a wonderful experience. I worked with students on attendance interventions and tutoring, and supported kids taking early college high school courses. Education systems in our communities can be very broken, and continue to be essential to healthy and safe neighborhoods - it was a privilege to work in a school.

Be thankful for what you are now, and keep fighting for what you want to be tomorrow.

Physicians for Human Rights

Asylum Program Intern

Focus of my work here involved the health and human rights issues asylum seekers face. I assisted in reporting to funders, preparing for trainings & communicating with a network of medical evaluators. I also surveyed evaluators about guidelines for evaluating juvenile asylum seekers & areas in need of improvement. Great opportunity to understand what asylum seekers go through.

Boston Public Health Commission

Committee Coordinator Intern

Health equity became a great interest of mine once I began this work! Trying to change the way public health work is done in order to improve health outcomes was an amazing way to see it as an ever-evolving practice. Managing content for multiple groups, supporting training design & supporting the Anti-Racism Advisory Committee gave me useful skills I have carried forward.

Community Dispute Settlement Center

Foundation Year Social Work Intern

While at CDSC I worked on community outreach, helped create a PSA and participated in grant writing. I also took the 33-hour mediation training & had an awesome time working on communication skills and conflict resolution. Mediation as a community resource can be so helpful to those wishing to stay out of court or resolve problems in a constructive environment.

Boston University

MSW/MPH, Social Work and Public Health

Two degrees that are incredibly well suited to being paired up! I gained insight into community organizing and outreach with a focus on diverse groups, communication and working from a strengths based perspective from social work. Public health gave me some harder science coursework and policy skills that could support a passion for social justice and systems change.
