I thought I would be an artist. Then Fate stepped in.

I was rejected from the art department so I took an introductory Communications course as a consolation prize while I beefed up my portfolio.

But here's the thing: I was blindsided by Communication & fell absolutely in love.

That fated fall semester I read a chapter from Michel de Certeau's "The Practice of Everyday Life" called "Reading as Poaching". I discovered that communication IS creativity. It's about stringing together old lines of thought in new ways to create new lines of thought. It's about retelling old stories & myths and legends to create a new reality. It's about evoking emotion to change how we view the world.

Thus my artist ambitions died & my creative soul emerged.

"You can’t just be you. You have to double yourself. You have to read books on subjects you know nothing about. You have to travel to places you never thought of traveling. You have to meet every kind of person and endlessly stretch what you know."

Associate of Media

At StreetShares-a financial technology startup- I had the unique opportunity to define my own role, which I did by crafting the voice, look & feel of the company brand in four facets:

1) Social Media: I increased the company’s Twitter following by more than 100% (6,500 to 13,700) in a year

2) Copywriting: I wrote all company copy, including a 2,500 word magazine article distributed to 2.5 million readers

3) Creative Services: I acted as the company's creative agency, developing infographics, print collateral and web graphics

And lastly,

4) Content Marketing: I launched a company blog, writing more than 100 articles on entrepreneurship and small business ownership in 2015
