Greets and interviews patients and families in a manner that contributes to a customer-service oriented and patient-centered healthcare environment. Ensures that patient data and all documentation are collected accurately and sensitively in order to maintain a patient database that supports the clinical and financial needs of the hospital. Assist uninsured and underinsured patients in accessing medical care by coordinating and completing applications for health care-related public benefits programs. Build relationships with internal and external groups in order to resolve patient issues including access and billing barriers. Responsibilities- Register patients by obtaining, verifying and recording personal, demographic and financial information in a sensitive and timely manner - Compliance with HIPAA and department regulations regarding patient confidentiality at all times - Verifies patient insurance coverage with third-party payers - Performs financial assessments to determine eligibility for Mass Health, Health Safety Net, Commonwealth Care, Commonwealth Choice, Medicare D, other state-sponsored and federal programs and private insurances - Initiates, coordinates and monitors patient applications to state and federal insurance programs; follows through until final determination received; updates application status in systems - Works closely with the MGH Pharmacy in order to assist patients in receiving their medication - Coordinates Partners Discount Policy for self-pay and uninsured patients; acts as a liaison for patients that participate in payment plans - Assists with resolving any and all billing inquiries and problems for patients, including MGH/MGPO issues - Provides coverage at the reception desk to support expeditious patient flow - Answer help line inquires about public benefits and other insurance programs, billing issues and inquiries - Completes additional tasks as assigned - Assists patients in applying for SNAP benefits.
