Stogey's Coney Island

Co-owner

In my perspective, the institution that brought awareness of business. From a young age, it taught me the hard work, dedication and perseverance it takes to succeed. When it was time to work, starting on prep to waiting tables to running the books, I learned all aspects of a business from managing employees and overhead expenses and creating revenue. I am deeply appreciative of growing up in this environment and fueling my entrepreneurship nature.

The Colonel's Restaurant

Owner

Purchased a local, historic restaurant and renovated it inside and out to bring it up to code and keep the second oldest continuous restaurant operating in Joplin. Fun project from beginning to end. As a person coming from a family of restauranteurs and an avid fan of "Restaurant Impossible" I was able to achieve my dream.
A couple was interested in purchasing the restaurant, so it was a great opportunity to pursue other interests.

College was an experience that taught me that No, I really don't know everything and everyday is a learning experience. I went in with a cocky attitude, but when you walk into a lecture hall of 400+ students and right there is a reality check that maybe some of these students may have different backgrounds and experiences that I can learn and grow from as well as the professors and maybe I wasn't as open-minded as I thought. Looking back I realize how much I have learned inside and outside of the classroom since school and how my successes and failures have made me the grateful person that I have become.

An example that I laugh about frequently is the subject of breastfeeding. We had a discussion in one of my communication courses over breastfeeding in public. At the time, I was strongly appalled by the subject. Jump forward ten years, I became educated about the advantages of breastfeeding and ended up breastfeeding my children for 6 years (not the same child.)
