Missouri State University
Graduate Teaching Assistant
August 2011 — Present
I independently teach one section of public speaking (COM 115) per semester. Teaching requires preparing and delivering lectures, designing and grading assignments, and working with students so they can maximize their own potential.
The other half of my assistantship is working with the Missouri State University debate team. While at Missouri State, the debate team qualified three teams to the prestigious National Debate Tournament (NDT) and competed in many elimination rounds. The Missouri State debate team travels to as many as 15 tournaments a year. In addition to traveling with the squad and assisting with travel logistics as needed, the main components of my job were research and argument development. Research focused on democracy assistance in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as domestic policy on energy production of resources such as wind, natural gas, coal, and oil. Argument development included strategy sessions, analyzing research, and evaluating practice speeches and debates.
