Kathleen Dooley

Kathleen Dooley

Assistant Project Manager

Albany, NY

It's completely cliche, but I want to change the world. I love this planet and the people on it. My passion is to help everyone live sustainably. My job is to help companies save energy and money. I'm an avid researcher, life-long learner, STEM and science-nerd advocate, lover of nature, and globe trotter.

Everyday Earth Chick

Living sustainably isn't hard and shouldn't be hard! I created this blog to share my experiences with people so they can see that a sustainable life does not mean a life in the dark ages. It's healthier, less impactful, satisfying, delicious, fun, and most importantly - easy!

Assistant Project Manager / Project Coordinator

I have worked in various roles programs at NYSERDA, most notably the PV Incentive Program, Cleaner Greener Communities Program, FlexTech Program, and Industrial and Process Efficiency Program. I have developed a strong knowledge base in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The most rewarding project that I've worked on has been the development of a new program from scratch - Strategic Energy Management for Industrial facilities. Meeting with program administrators across North America, developing the program scope, budgets, savings goals, participation targets, work plans, and everything else from soup to nuts. It has drawn on my affinity for research and my organizational skills. And there's nothing like seeing it all become reality.

SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering

Business Development Assistant / Project Research Assistant

Nanotechnology is something few people comprehend. Carbon nanotubes, particles that are one millionth the size of a strand of hair - these concepts are so foreign to the average person, and my job was to explain what these are and what the college was working on.

The highlight of my job was attending conferences and planning events at the college. We held an annual New Energy Symposium that focused on new technologies related to energy - solar, wind, hydrogen powered machines, hybrid and electric cars, etc. - and featured speakers that are leaders in the industry. It was a lot of work to coordinate these events, and involved a lot of moving parts, but it was rewarding seeing it all come together flawlessly.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Marylhurst University

Masters of Business Administration, Sustainable Business

Obtaining my MBA in Sustainable Business was a huge accomplishment for me. I attended grad school full time while also working full time which resulted in a highly developed ability to manage my time. This was one of the biggest goals I had set for myself, and I am extremely proud of the dedication and commitment I put into achieving it.

My specialization was in Green Development which focused on green buildings and communities. This concentration really changed my perspective on how we interact with buildings and the need for greater community development.

University of Albany

Bachelor of Arts, Political Science

I started my college career as a Biology major, however during a lecture on evolution lightening struck. I loved science and wanted to pursue a career in research, but if policy makers were unaware of scientific findings, and couldn't build sound policies based on that, then any research I did would be for naught. I decided then that I wanted to be a bridge connecting the two.

Career Add-Ons

"Professor" for a day

I had the opportunity to speak with a group of college kids to talk to them about my career and career path. Helping the kids think about their futures, and the paths they want to be on, is an experience I hope I get the chance to repeat several times!

Being a HUGE nature and traveling enthusiast, I have taken up the hobby of photography to capture all the great moments I experience. I have taken a couple of classes at the Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy, NY, and loved every minute of it!

I am a self-proclaimed foodie and love seeking out and trying new recipes. I aim to try at least one new recipe a month to keep myself on my toes and switch things up. It's a fun way to challenge myself to keep growing and learning new skills, plus the delicious end results aren't bad either.

Traveling has opened my eyes to so many different cultures, cities, and experiences. Every place has it's own special vibe - every city has it's own speed, every park has it's own sounds, every restaurant has it's own flair. Experiencing what other places have to share opens my eyes to how connected we all are and gives me a greater appreciation for people and our planet.

Shelter Animals

I have always been an animal lover and there are SO many pets in shelters that need a good home! I adopted my cat from a shelter and he was a 10 year old male at the time - adult pets need love too! - and he has filled a huge hole in my life. I also help out my boyfriend with the shelter pups that he fosters until they find their forever home.
