Academic Counselor, College Support
August 2008 — Present
Rainier Scholars is an academic and leadership enrichment program serving promising students of color over an eleven year journey from 6th grade to college graduation with a primary goal of increasing graduation rates and creating future leaders. We serve those scholars with the greatest barriers to a college education including low income and students who will be first in their family to earn a four year college degree.
I am an Academic Counselor in the College Support phase which is the fourth and final phase of the program consisting of freshmen-senior year students attending college. There are currently 170 scholars who attend 75 colleges and universities in 24 states. Of the 170 scholars, I support about 60 students and provide services that include tracking their academic progress and providing academic, financial and socio--emotional support services for struggling students.
