Use research and individual contact with lawyers and policy makers to assist sections and other bar association entities in the development of legislation and public policy positions affecting law and the legal profession.
Develop and administer pro bono efforts of the Military Spouse JD Network, an international network of legal professionals serving the country with their servicemember spouses and dedicated to improving the lives of military families. Manage the online presence of MSJDN. Develop communications strategy as part of a small collaborative team focused on advocacy for military families. Draft blog posts and press releases, and manage social media real estate.
Advised and negotiated on behalf of Soldiers, retirees and family members on a wide variety of areas, including but not limited to: military regulations and administrative procedures; real property and landlord-tenant issues; consumer law and debt collection; family law including divorce, paternity, child custody and support. Counseled clients on estate planning issues, life insurance designations and other probate matters; drafted wills, Advanced Medical Directives, and health care powers of attorney. Provided preventative law briefings for military community and drafted preventative law materials for publication and posting online. Worked with ABA Military Pro Bono Project and other pro bono networks to secure direct civil representation for Soldiers. Completed 67th Legal Assistance Course at the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School, October 2011. Member of EEO Special Emphasis Committee.
Represented children in highly contentious child abuse and neglect litigation in three Louisiana parishes. Focused on the protection of the legal rights of the child client. Drafted and argued appropriate pleadings and motions advocating the child’s articulated position. Conducted training of Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers.
Assisted three judges with all civil and criminal matters. Corresponded with attorneys, post-conviction prisoners and pro se plaintiffs and defendants on matters before the court. Researched relevant law, drafted opinions and written reasons for judgment, and assisted with courtroom operations.
Coordinated Bar-wide projects with an emphasis on legal training of Louisiana Legal Services Providers. Utilized technology to hold trainings via Internet videoconference. Worked with pro bono programs to increase involvement of private bar. Liaised with statewide substantive law task forces, ATJ Subcommittees, and Right to Counsel Committee to coordinate meetings, trainings and presentations.
Led national law student volunteer network as part of seven-member advisory board dedicated to social justice in communities affected by Hurricane Katrina. Organized volunteer trips for over 2,000 law students from schools nationwide. Worked in conjunction with nonprofits to develop service opportunities for students. Supervised students during service projects.
Responsible for all areas of art and editorial production for three jewelry trade magazines.
