Providence Park. Home to the Portland Timbers MLS soccer team, Portland Thorns FC of the National Women's Soccer League and Portland State University Vikings football team.
My responsibilities include but are not limited to, complete event set up and break down. Room decoration and layout logistics. Preparing buffets, full premium bars, coffee and desert stations. We distribute food and beverages to stadium employees, contracted service providers, and guests for sporting and special events. Generally I bartend events with bars. With such a large venue and the many areas that my department provides services for, I find myself doing general support as much as anything.
Types of events are Soccer matches and football games. Holiday parties, business meetings, weddings and receptions. Birthdays, Bar Mitzvah, dances, general events, and special occasions of all varieties.
From opening up for the day. Which includes getting the cash for the register. Cleaning, stocking ice, prepping fruit and mixers, stocking bottles and dry goods I.e. napkins, straws, coaster and receipt paper. Serving food and drinks to the guests at the bar top throughout the day, simultaneously while preparing drinks for the service staff's guests. To the end of night procedures. Sanitizing the taps, well area, bar top, sweeping floors, coolers and mopping. Running all glassware through the dishwasher. Labeling all fruit, juice, and wine with dates. Putting everything back in the fridge and storage rooms. Counting the register, checking the sales, capping all bottles to protect from dirt and bugs. Turning lights off, alarms on, and locking up the restaurant for the night.
This is my introduction into the restaurant/hospitality industry. I started out bussing tables at the Black Rabbit Restaurant. Within a year had been trained as part of the waitstaff. Within the next 6 months I was asked if I wanted to learn how to work behind the bar. I started to learn the trade and have been involved with that area ever since. I learned here that I genuinely enjoy facilitating 'the dining experience' for people and the difference between good and excellent service, that regularly returns. Is subtle details often overlooked or perceived as unnecessary.
Studied in a classroom studio environment. Courses ranged from various aspects of music production, audio engineering, and audio recording for professional/personal development.
