Joanna Lozowik practices primarily in the areas of civil and commercial litigation. Her practice includes a broad range of litigation matters, including cases in the areas of product liability, insurance, commercial leasing and commercial contract disputes. Joanna has particular expertise in class action litigation, and has defended a Canadian household furniture and appliance retailer in two class action cases involving alleged violations of the Consumer Protection Act relating to false and misleading representations in respect of the sale of extended warranties.
She has also worked on several matters relating to securities litigation and compliance, particularly in terms of registration, insider trading, market manipulation and broker liability. Joanna was also a key member of an initiative aimed at keeping financial institutions to date with respect to notices issued by the CSA, the AMF and OSC. She has collaborated on several news articles on securities and is currently a co-author of the JurisClasseur Securities chapter regarding registration.
Joanna regularly appears before the Court of Québec, the Superior Court of Québec, as well as before various administrative boards. She has also assisted senior counsel in numerous cases before the Québec Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Joanna practises law in English and French, and is fluent in Polish.
