Syosset Public Library

Children's Services Librarian

I am a Children's Services Librarian serving a large and lively community. In past years, I have collaborated and facilitated in several programs, including but not limited to story times, playgroups, book discussion, art projects, and thematic "day" programs (for example: Harry Potter Day, and Star Wars Day).

I have been responsible for the ordering of children's films for circulation at our library since 2007.

I am a fan of graphic novels, and an advocate of the use of Popular Culture as a means to connect with patrons. Therefore, I have spoken on several panels regarding the subject at New York Comic Con, which is held at the Jacob Javitz Center in Manhattan, New York. I am also a frequent reviewer for the website "No Flying No Tights".

I have also been heavily involved in the development of LIPopCon (Long Island Libraries and Pop-Culture Concerence). This was the first regional conference aimed at connecting the library profession with the pop-culture boom.

I believe libraries are constantly in the forefront on their communities, and must be willing to always look for angles to connect with their patrons. I am passionate about my field, and agree with the importance of fostering reading appreciation by giving a child the "right book at the right time."

Outside of libraries, I have a background in English, and Film Theory.
