Prevent the establishment of exotic pests through exclusion, detection, and eradication programs. Education and enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and regulations in order to effectively promote and protect agriculture, the economy, community, environment, and health and safety of citizens. Specifically work with the European Grapevine Moth, Glassy-Winged Sharp Shooter, Vine Mealy Bug, and other target species programs to deploy and inspect traps in order to detect and identify presence of pests. Perform inspections to ensure compliance among vineyard, winery, trucking, and composting operations, and communicate with public and industry employees to maintain awareness of policies. Train incoming employees. Maintain state-wide database for insect trap locations, maintenance, and finds.
Manage the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Assess flood risks through analysis of hydrologic and hydraulic models and translate data to FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps. Review engineer riverine system modeling, bridge design plans, and floodplain mapping. Evaluate federal floodplain regulation violations, as well as Endangered Species Act compliance. Facilitate communication and understanding between developers, engineers, and local, state, and federal representatives.
