The New York Foundling
Business Operations Manager
September 2013 — Present
While The New York Foundling has provided social services to the children and families of New York City since 1869, the Business Operations team was formed only in 2012 by the Chief Operating Officer in order to focus on creating efficiencies, cost savings and business results to support the organization's mission.
As part of my team's efforts to monetize our assets, I manage a team of construction vendors and design consultants in the renovation of over 300,000 SF of office, clinic and dormitory space in order to maximize our space use and minimize our maintenance costs. I review and negotiate the contracts for these large-scale capital projects, work with our insurance experts and Chief Financial Officer to assess risk and ensure proper protections, oversee and reconcile project budgets, and liaise between our project management consultants and executive staff to communicate impact and delays.
I provide legal support in lease negotiations and property sales, including securing Vatican approval to "alienate" one of our organization's most valuable assets. I support the Chief Operating Officer, who also serves as our general counsel, by managing our internal and outsourced legal projects which range from landlord disputes to mergers and acquisitions.
Additional responsibilities include financial analysis, consensus formation in inter-department initiatives, developing innovative partnerships with for-profit organizations, and supporting our VP of Business Operations in developing strategy and department structure.
