Bella Faccia inc

Scenic Carpenter

During my time at Bella Faccia I build scenic units for theatre, commercials, film, television, live events, and many other clients who needed us to make something. I gained great confidence in my welding skills. I made a strong effort to support maintaining a clean and safe work space. Plus keeping the tools and hardware in order. I worked in many venues in the area.

The second part of the job was maintaining and supporting the on site studio. I had many opportunities to work on off site shoots as Art Direction. Many times I had the great pleasure to work with the good folks over at GMMB.

Cortland Repertory Theatre

Assistant Technical Director

During my time as the ATD at Cortland Repertory Theatre, we built 7 sets in 14 weeks. We struck a show and installed a new shoe in a 3 to 4 day period, mostly working overnight. We built our scenery in an old gutted bowling alley which provided us with enough space to have a shop area and a paint deck. Hauling scenery and tools back and forth, and for the most part having a good time. I had difficulty readjusting to being in an authority position.I have developed not only high expectations for myself, but others as well.

Career

Oregon Shakespeare Festival

Stage Operations Technician

This position consisted of two primary duties: to shift scenery between performances to a new show, and to serve as the run crew for the shows.

Shifting scenery seems like a dance to many people, but it is basically performing a task on a shift and finding the next thing that needs done. Not to say that it is simple. One must be able to learn and consistently perform any task that needs done at any given moment in the shift. Day to day, most people perform the same tasks, but there are many combinations the shift can take.

I was fortunate enough to gain a lot of rigging experience doing this. Most of my time at the beginning of my first season was spent in the grid, lowering/raising dead hung lanterns, making sure cables don't foul, checking hardware. I spent much time running the line sets and chain motors in all of the theatres.

When I ran shows, I served as the Props crew person for one show and ran automation consisting of a lift with trap doors, enormous sliding walls, and a treadmill, for another. Both shows ran over 80 performances.

Carpenter (Over-Hire)

While finishing undergrad, I began working as an over-hire carpenter at OSF. I maintained a relationship with the Scene Shop after moving on to the Stage Operations crew. I continued to work in the shop off and on for three season working on about half of the shows that were produced. This consisted of striving to produce high quality scenery in a reasonable time frame, while learning new skills and maintaining the space.
